Kicking off the Foundations of Innovation and Entrepreneurship (FIE) course that has been designed to create entrepreneurial thinkers who are able to contextualize and empathize with a problem to derive real impact solutions. Students engaged in processes of self discovery and development, through initiatives such as ‘Identifying the Dreamer vs. Realist Within’ leveraging Walt Disney’s Three Room Brainstorming method, design exercises such as the Marshmallow Challenge (adapted from Stanford’s Design School), and sessions on ‘Freeing your mind’ that focus on unpacking the dreamer within each students while driving social-emotional learning – an essential step to promoting innovation by helping students learn new ways of exploring and creating.
Within their academic coursework, students are
being intellectually challenged every day. Recently, during a routine lab, engineering
students were tasked to create functioning table-top fans using minimal
resources and recycled materials. Beaming with enthusiasm, the students ended
up working after class hours to successfully build and demonstrate their output.
