On November 14, 2018, BlueCrest University College Liberia organized a TEDx Monrovia intellectual event in an effort to make university students and community residents cognizant of the importance of TED (Technology, Entertainment, and Design) talks.
TEDx are independently organized discussion forums where either live professionals speak on various issues or influential video recordings are played in a theatre-like setting showcasing short, powerful discussions from experts in education, business, science, technology, creative arts, etc. These idea symposiums are organized in order to explore ideas worth sharing while sparking conversations within local communities across the globe.
BlueCrest University College Liberia Rector, Dr. Gajendra Singh, during his welcome remarks stressed that investments in the new paths to education in Sub-Saharan Africa (particularly Liberia) be rooted in globally standardized scholastic institutions. He outlined that TED is a nonprofit organization that began in 1984 with the devoted aim to spreading ideas. Today, TEDx covers an array of multi-disciplinary areas in more than 100 languages across the globe. He further added that programs such as TEDx could also provide a solid basis for knowledge and shared ideas and experiences.

Mr. Logan Campbell, an internationally esteemed digital multimedia and communications entrepreneur and affiliate of TEDx Monrovia, served as the keynote speaker to a cross-section of BlueCrest students, instructors, staff, and senior administrators. During his presentation several short TED pre-recorded videos were played on Robotics, Artificial Intelligence, African-American social dances and Image Processing, much to the amazement of the audience. He highlighted the prospect of individuals becoming more conscious of the social, professional, and environmental factors shaping the world around them. Following a question and answer (Q&A) session, Mr. Logan briefed the audience of upcoming TEDx events within the country.
The TEDx event organizer, Mr. Kamal Kant Hiran, Head, Department of IT, also explained the significance of TEDx, imploring students to challenge themselves academically. He challenged them to enrich their mindsets through technical activities such as Hackathon, Mobile app and web development, as well as other intellectual discourse activities that could help them to address social issues for a better tomorrow.
While taking group photos at the climax of the program, the BlueCrest University College Liberia administrators thanked Mr. Logan for his participation in such a landmark social event, and in the spirit of fostering ideas through information exchange, Dr. Singh announced immediate plans to form a BlueCrest University Liberia TEDx club, to which both students and faculty were exceedingly delighted.
