ameliorate growth in schools and our society.

The maiden edition of Academic City, Ghana’s
educational conference in Nigeria was held at the function suite of the
Sheraton Hotel, Ikeja on Friday 24th May 2019 between 09:00 am to
03:00 pm, tagged “Managing the learning process: Systems approach to teaching
& learning”

The first inspiring session, delivered by Mr.
Pradeep Pahalwani, Managing Director, Securisk Insurance Brokers Limited, on
Entrepreneurship and its importance to schools and businesses were focused on
the need for good communication between schools-parents; businesses-clients
respectively.

Entrepreneurship is one of the core values at
Academic City as all its Students, irrespective of their course majors are
required to go through this training with the emphasis on experiential and
explorative learning.

The session by Prof. Fred McBagonluri, President,
Academic City, Ghana, focused on a systems approach to providing practical
solutions to problems and issues faced in society. He went further to explain
the vision of the college to offer quality tertiary education that will change
Africa’s narrative in terms of intellectual capacity and development. He said
“When deploying curricula, you need to understand that you are teaching humans
not donkeys. Teachers should be able to put themselves in their students’ shoes
and ask if their teaching methods would help these students understand better”

The conference had about 80 participants (School
owners, Heads of Schools, principals, and Counselors) drawn from about 50 top
schools in Lagos and Ogun states.

The Nigerian admission team: Mrs. Ogechi Ekpe, Miss
Sandra Plangtok and Miss Ife David were present to ensure everything worked
perfectly and according to plan.
