
To promote the use of products made in Africa,
student of Mass Communications at BlueCrest College, Ghana organised ‘AfroFest
2019’ at the college auditorium on June 12, 2019. Students of Semester IV held
this full-day event as part of their mandatory end-of-semester theatre arts
project.
The festival featured several cultural events,
including poetry recitals, comedy shows, theatre plays, music & dance
programmes etc.
The event also offered a platform to young
entrepreneurs, who set up several stalls and kiosks in the college premises to
showcase their products, ideas and services. The event was open to the public,
and the entry was free for all.
Products on sale included natural drinks, organic
shea-butter creams, toothpaste, gadgets, leather jackets, bags and accessories
etc.
BlueCrest’s Head of Mass Communications
Department, Ms Sreemoyee Thapa Dasgupta said helping the local economy by
creating more opportunities for the youth was at the core of ‘AfroFest 2019’.
She also said the department is exploring the idea of making AfroFest an annual
event.
