Introducing Prospective Students to Academic City

Academic
City, on June 19, 2019, hosted an Open Day Barbeque event aimed at giving
prospective students a taste of Academic City. 158 prospective students
attended the event that was packed with several exciting activities including
an exhibition of all programs offered at Academic City, networking and
interaction with existing students, faculty, and staff, and a panel discussion  featuring key professionals across various industries such as engineering,
computer science, journalism, human resources, finance, and accounting.

The panel
discussion was the highlight of the event and included professionals such as
Darlington Akogo (Founder, CEO, Director of Artificial Intelligence – GUDRA,
minoHealth, and Runmila AI Institute), Felicia Quarm (Electrical Engineer –
Power Distribution Services Ghana Ltd.) Lauretta Atobra (Completions Engineer –
Tullow Oil), Chester Avenorgbo (CEO – The Bag Spa), Ama Edjah (Treasurer –
Millicom Ghana (AirtelTigo), Genevieve Puni (Director/HR Practitioner –
RecTrain Services Ltd.), Kafui Dey (Master of Ceremonies and Media
Communications Professional – Dey Marketing Ventures), and Natalie Fort (News
Anchor – TV3), who shared personal experiences and lessons from their career
journeys to inspire and encourage students to work toward realizing their
aspirations.

The
panellists were also supported by Academic City’s faculty and administrative
team including Dr. Fred McBagonluri (President), Dr. Linda Deigh (Dean of the
Faculty of Business Administration & Social Sciences), Dr. Ransford Antwi
(Head of Department for Social Sciences), Edward Daniels (Finance Lecturer),
and Diana McBagonluri (Communications Lecturer).

The
Academic City team emphasized the institution’s holistic approach toward
preparing students to be future-ready leaders who will remain globally
competitive and relevant in a career of their choice.

Students
were given the opportunity to interact and network with Academic City’s
students, faculty and staff over barbeque and refreshments to learn about the
programs the school offers, life on campus, internship opportunities, and other
opportunities designed to harness their creative minds. They also played
several outdoor games including a soccer board game played with dice created by
Frindo Soccer that aims to introduce players
to concepts in probability theory and advanced mathematics in an engaging and
interesting way.

Academic
City will be hosting its second Open Day on August 7, 2019, and will feature ­­live
demonstrations of student projects to show how the school blends theory with
practical learning.
