Academic City hosted its second Open Day on August 7, 2019, to give interested students a chance to experience the campus first-hand as they prepare to choose a university that will groom them for their future careers. 80 students participated in the ACity Experience Open Day, which featured a variety of activities including live demonstrations, interactions with guest speakers from different industries, the opportunity to meet current students and faculty, and a tour of our newly built campus facilities.

The highlight of the Open Day was the live demonstrations, which gave prospective students insight into Academic City’s approach to experiential learning. Academic City’s students exhibited some of the projects they had completed in the previous academic year including a presentation on innovative solutions to specific organizational challenges, a display of the operation of a desktop fan created using basic materials such as cardboard and a motor, and a demonstration of how a smart Roverbin, which detects, dumps, and recycles garbage, can solve the challenge of waste management in urban areas.

Students also interacted with key professionals in various industries including Nathaniel Attoh (Master of Ceremonies, editor and anchor – Joy FM, Multi TV and Multimedia Group), Regina Agyare (CEO – Soronko Solutions), Yaw Opare Asamoah (CEO – Mohican Investment Holdings), and Rashid Sowah (workshop concept consultant for West and Central Africa – Bosch Automotive Aftermarket, Ghana), who shared their career experiences to encourage students to find and begin their journeys.

Participants of the Open Day met with current students and faculty over refreshments to learn about the academic environment, campus life, and opportunities for growth and development through internship and study abroad programs. In addition, they interacted with the admissions team who provided support concerning the application process and conducted on-the-spot admissions for some students.
