Delmaw’s Contribution to a National Health Milestone

Delmaw’s Contribution to a National Health Milestone

The Mbuya Military Referral Hospital stands out as one of Uganda’s most ambitious healthcare projects in recent years–a strategic, fully government-funded investment aimed at strengthening medical capacity for the Uganda People’s Defence Force (UPDF) and the broader public. Located in Mbuya, Nakawa Division, the facility is designed to operate as the UPDF’s flagship referral center, while also extending critical services to civilian personnel.

A Major Public Investment

Backed entirely by the UPDF, the project carries a total commitment of US$38.5 million.

  • US$30 million went into constructing the main hospital block, launched in February 2018 and completed in July 2025.
  • Another US$8.5 million is allocated specifically for medical equipment and furnishing–a decisive factor in making the hospital fully functional.

The scale and funding structure underline the government’s intent to not just build infrastructure, but to elevate national healthcare capability in a sustainable, long-term way.

Delmaw’s Critical Role in Equipping the Facility

Where the project becomes particularly significant for Vista Group is in the equipment phase. Delmaw Enterprises–our Uganda-based Artemis entity–is supplying roughly 75% of the hospital’s total equipment budget, making this one of our largest and most strategically important engagements with the Government of Uganda to date.

Delmaw’s contributions are centered on the most sensitive and high-dependency areas of the hospital:

  • Operating Theatre
  • Critical Care Unit
  • Central Sterile Supply Department (CSSD)

These are the departments that ultimately define a hospital’s ability to handle emergencies, surgeries, and infection control–the core of any modern medical institution. Delivery and installation work is already underway, with teams on the ground coordinating closely with UPDF engineers and the hospital administration to ensure seamless commissioning.

A Milestone for Uganda–and for Delmaw

Once completed, the Mbuya Military Referral Hospital will become a flagship medical institution within the UPDF ecosystem, with expected operational launch in Q1 2026. Its impact will extend beyond military personnel; it will strengthen the country’s overall healthcare readiness, emergency response capability, and long-term medical resilience.

For Delmaw and Vista Group, the project reinforces our position as a trusted partner for complex, large-scale public health initiatives. It demonstrates our ability to deliver on critical national priorities and underscores the value of long-term, responsible engagement with governments across Africa.

This is more than a hospital project–it’s a step toward a stronger healthcare system for Uganda, and a powerful example of what deliberate investment and capable execution can achieve.
