BlueCrest College celebrated the
Women’s Day and Wear Ghana Month in style as students and staff turned up at
the campus in fashionable, traditional Ghanaian wear on March 8, 2019.
Ms. Serwah Quaynor, founder and
executive director of the Autism Awareness, Care and Training (AACT) was the
chief guest at the event. In her speech, Ms Quaynor spoke about embracing
differences and working harder to build a better nation.
A competition was also held for
students and staff members to adjudge Best African Wear— Male and Female
(Staff), Best African Wear — Male and Female (Students) and Best African
Accessories — Male and Female. Cash prizes were handed out to the
winners in these categories.

While March 8 is celebrated
across the globe as “Women’s Day” to celebrate women and the spirit of
womanhood, the month is known in Ghana as the Wear Ghana month. It is widely
celebrated in households and organisations across the sixteen regions of the
country as people flaunt traditional and locally made clothes.
The purpose of this Wear Ghana
celebration is to encourage traditional Ghanaian wear and support local
manufacturers, artists and designers who are facing the heat of fast fashion
and tilting preference towards western fashion trends.
