Powering Nigeria’s Packaging Future
Inside Printbox Nigeria’s New Label & Flexo Manufacturing Facility
Nigeria’s fast-growing consumer economy is placing increasing pressure on local manufacturing to keep pace, particularly in packaging, where quality, speed, and consistency are non-negotiable. Against this backdrop, Printbox Nigeria has made a decisive move: the launch of a state-of-the-art Label and Flexo Packaging Manufacturing Plant in Surulere, Lagos.
Spanning approximately 4,500 square meters, the facility represents a major capacity upgrade for the local packaging ecosystem, one designed not only to meet demand, but to reduce reliance on imports and raise industry standards across multiple sectors.
Built for Scale, Precision, and Versatility
The new plant is equipped with advanced machinery sourced from Italy, China, India, and the UAE, enabling Printbox to deliver high-quality output at industrial scale. Once fully operational, the unit will have an annual production capacity of 7.2 million meters of flexo packaging, supporting a wide mix of packaging formats and substrates.
At the heart of the operation is flexography: a modern, high-speed rotary printing process that uses flexible relief plates. Evolved from traditional letterpress printing, flexography is ideally suited for today’s packaging requirements, allowing consistent, high-quality printing on materials such as PP films, metallic films, paper, and board.
What Flexible Packaging Enables
Flexible packaging (produced from paper, plastic films, aluminium foil, or layered combinations) has become the backbone of modern FMCG supply chains. Its applications span bags, pouches, wraps, liners, roll stock, and more, offering advantages in cost efficiency, shelf life, transport, and sustainability.
Printbox’s investment positions it squarely within this growth segment, with the ability to serve high-volume, high-spec clients that demand reliability and speed.
Advanced Production Capabilities
The facility integrates a comprehensive suite of production and finishing equipment, including:
- Flexo printing machines for labels and flexible packaging
- Flexo plate mounting machines
- Slitting and slitter-rewinding machines
- Anilox roller cleaning systems
- Sheeter machines
- Die-cutting and blanking machines
- A full range of ancillary equipment supporting precision and throughput
This end-to-end setup allows Printbox to control quality at every stage, from print registration to final conversion.
Target Markets and Product Portfolio
Printbox Nigeria is launching a diversified range of flexo packaging products tailored to high-demand industries, including FMCG, cosmetics, beverages, pharmaceuticals, and food.
The portfolio includes:
- Labels: Self-adhesive labels, shrink labels, and paper labels
- Flexible Packaging: Shrink wrappers, pouches, and laminates
- Lami-Tubes: Toothpaste tubes, pharmaceutical tubes, and oil product tubes
- Mono Cartons: Pharma boxes, takeaway food boxes, perfume and cosmetic cartons
Commercial Launch and Strategic Impact
Commercial production is scheduled to commence in January 2026, starting with adhesive labels, flexible packaging, lami-tubes, and mono cartons. These categories collectively represent the largest share of packaging demand, approximately 36% of the total market, followed by flexible paper packaging and other flexo products.
A key strategic objective of the project is import substitution. By producing high-quality packaging materials locally, Printbox aims to directly serve existing market demand while reducing lead times, foreign exchange exposure, and dependency on overseas suppliers.
Materials and Substrates Supported
The plant is designed to handle a wide range of printable materials, including:
- Adhesive films and paper packaging films
- PP, PET, PVC, BOPP, PETG, OPS
- IML materials and lami-tube substrates
- Tag stock, C1S and C2S carton boards
- Aluminium-based packaging materials
Looking Ahead
Printbox Nigeria’s new Surulere facility is more than a capacity expansion, it’s a signal of intent. By investing in advanced technology, diversified output, and local manufacturing scale, the company is positioning itself as a critical enabler of Nigeria’s consumer and industrial growth story.
As demand accelerates across FMCG, pharma, and food sectors, this facility stands to play a meaningful role in strengthening supply chains, improving quality consistency, and anchoring value creation firmly within the Nigerian market.
