Artemis Pharma Swazi has been
interested in sourcing and distributing alternative herbal medicines and has
embarked on the following approach. Most of the medicines distributed and
available in Swaziland are manufactured with chemical formulas, which may have
adverse events (toxic) and cause damage to our health indirectly. Considering
the current situation, Artemis pharma is investigating on introducing a product
which doesn’t have any adverse events and is as effective as a synthetic
pharmaceutical product. Although volumes may be small initially we believe that
this is a great stepping stone to understand the growing nutraceutical market.
Herbal Pelargonium Product:
- The first step to introduce a herbal
medicine is to know how big the herbal market is and collecting the key
opinion from the KOL (key opinion leaders) or customers. - Pelargonium extract is widely
used for cough syrups which are good in terms of eradicating the addictive and
sedative cough syrups. - The safety profile of herbal products
is high, especially for diabetic patients as these medicines are sugar-free and
those can be listed in OTC Segments. - To penetrate into market we should
have lot of promotions like CME’S (Continues Medical Education) local ads
in newspapers, radio stations etc.
