When Ravi Kant Sharma, Finance Controller at KAS Medics & KAS Biotech in Dar es Salaam, was given early access to Google Gemini as part of the Group’s small AI pilot, he put it straight to work on one of the most time-consuming parts of his job: turning dense financial data into executive commentary for the board pack.
Every month, Ravi pulls raw numbers from across departments (accounts receivable ageing, product line margins, reagent inventory turnover) and has to explain, in clear language, why cash conversion cycles shifted or why certain diagnostic lines saw inventory delays. It used to mean hours spent cross-referencing spreadsheets and drafting narrative summaries from scratch.
Now, Ravi feeds anonymised variance tables and KPI data to Gemini, which drafts a structured first pass of the commentary, flags the key drivers, and formats it into a clear summary–leaving him to review and fine-tune rather than write from a blank page. What used to take two to three hours per reporting cycle now takes roughly 15 to 20 minutes.
“Integrating Gemini into my reporting workflow has turned dense financial data into instant, actionable narratives for our executive team. It hasn’t just sped up my output, it has freed me to focus on strategic financial planning rather than spending hours drafting commentary,” Ravi says.
The time savings go further: nested spreadsheet formulas and dashboard troubleshooting that used to mean lengthy trial and error can now be resolved in under a minute, and Ravi has found similar value using Gemini for supplier and client communication, from vendor inquiries to expiry-risk alerts for KAS Medics’ reagent stock.
His advice to colleagues exploring AI tools: use it to handle the structure and formatting, but always check the output against your source data–the real value is in the time it frees up for strategic thinking, not in letting the AI make the final call.
