NIIT Ghana launched its maiden App Challenge v1.0 at the Ring Road NIIT Centre, Accra in March, 2018.
The App Challenge seeks to bring together students who have received tuition in the area of Software Engineering to develop apps aimed at helping to solve societal problems.
The competition went through three rounds where the judges screened and critiqued the apps. It was the kind of challenge that saw both local and foreign students competing for the top slots. The entries were grouped into three main categories namely: android, web and desktop applications. The competition saw winners emerging in each category. The final event took place on 20th April, 2018.
Some of the exciting entries were the Android dictation app which teaches the user a new language such as French, Spanish and English etc. There was also the school transcript app and Campus Buddy a social platform for students.
The impact of this App Challenge has been overwhelming. It is anticipated that the next App Challenge v2.0 will see a lot of entries from the students. The App Challenge has been inspiring and the students believe they can become the next power house of developers in Africa.
